Ruth Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the youngest of three daughters of Lithuanian-Jewish parents Mary Pauline (Gold) and Abraham Roman. At the age of five her carnival barker father passed away which left Ruth's mother without a choice other than to be a cleaning girl and waitress to feed the family. Ruth attended school, and was poor throughout Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. After only two school years, Ruth left to pursue the acting career.
